HUMP DAY!

December 23, 2008

Well, not really, but kinda!  Since I only have 2 1/2 days of work this week, I’m pretending today is Wednesday!  That makes having to work this week a little easier to stomach!

I started this cold Monday off on the wrong foot, which I guess isn’t hard to do considering I had to tiptoe around my brother-in-law, and two dogs on my way to the coffee pot in the dark!  I woke up with a slight sore throat and heavy eyes, but decided it would be easier to go to the gym anyway.  I didn’t want to think about trying to get ready at home with four others waiting for the same bathroom.

I headed out with my travel mug of coffee and ended up having a really good workout.  It’s posted here.   I arrived at work on time and had a steaming bowl of pumpkin pie oatmeal.  I used 1/4 cup of Silk pumpkin nog and 1/4 cup of regular Silk for a little change.  It was very yummy!

Ok, back to work.  The countdown begins…5 hours!  I can’t wait to go home and cozy up on the couch.  It’s freezing outside and in here today.

Back soon…

Shaky Running

December 17, 2008

I started the day with two nice cups of black coffee on the way to the gym.  Once there, I decided to run.  I haven’t run intervals in exactly two weeks because my knee was bugging me, but I felt great.  I did 5.55 miles in about 50 minutes, but I did a 30/60/90 workout and it’s posted here.  I had to switch treadmills after 1.25 miles because the one I was on was totally shaking!  Once I got to work, I cooked my microwave pumpkin oats.  I combined:  1/3 c. pumpkin, 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup soymilk, 2 tsp. brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, 1 T. flaxseeds, and 1 T. almond butter.  That lasted me well until lunch time when I had apple salad and a serving of kashi crackers.  I mixed 1 carton of organic f.f. vanilla yogurt, 1 small apple, 2 small stalks of celery, and a handful of raisins.  I worked through the afternoon and pre-yoga I had a banana with a tablespoon of peanut butter.

Yoga was great!  I love the Tuesday night teacher, Jo.  She is wonderful.  It is mentally tough because we hold the poses for a long time, but it is a little easier than some of the other classes in which the teachers move us so quickly through the flow series.  She focuses a lot on hip opening which I love.

After yoga, I picked up the hubby from a work happy hour and we headed home.  I made a Turkey Meatloaf yesterday and it was good, but I didn’t feel like it.  I should have had some because I think I was lacking protein as I just couldn’t be satisfied.  I started with sauteed spinach and sweet potato fries with a slice of bread with hummus, two small clementines.  I was mouth hungry so I had a cup of hot cocoa made with soymilk and two sizable chunks of peppermint bark.

I didn’t take pictures today but will try to work on that.  As I said, I think a little more protein would have helped me feel more satisfied.  Oh well!  I’m putting in some OT hours doing work tonight, so I’m going to run.  I”m really going to try and post pictures tomorrow!

RECORD LOWS!

December 15, 2008

Oh my gosh.  It is freezing out there today.  Apparently, it is the coldest it has been since 1901.  When I started the car the temperature gauge said -19* and it finally warmed up to a steamy -10*.  Craziness!  It’s days like today that I wish that I lived in Hawaii.

My hubby and I ventured to the gym and I had a pretty good workout.  I started with 10 min on the eliptical to get warmed up.  I did three circuits of chest/back/legs or abs.  It’s posted here if you would like to see it.

After making cookies all afternoon yesterday and eating more than I intended, I felt like having a very simple breakfast with a good dose of protein.   I decided on oatmeal, scrambled egg whites, and 1/2 grapefruit.  It was fitting for what I felt like eating this morning, but not particularly flavorful!

1215-039

Even though my grapefruit looked gorgeous, it tasted a little weird, so I only ate 1/2.  I get to work from home today, so I’m staying warm inside.  I promised the dog that I would walk her around noon, as it was so darn cold this morning!  Ok, better get cracking.  More later!

A Month of Madness!

December 12, 2008

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a month since I’ve posted to my blog.  I really want to get into this blogging thing and put some effort into maintaining it.  I think it’s my premature New Year’s resolution!  Maybe if I start now, it’ll stick.  Anyway, I’m really going to view this as my winter hobby.  It’ll give me something to look forward to and perhaps help me spend my time indoors a little more productively.

Ok, so I’m going to try my best to get into the swing of updating twice daily…adding pictures…and really making this a fun reflection of myself and my life.  What a great creative outlet.  I’m getting excited as I type!  Ok, I’m going to start tomorrow.  Don’t give up on me, I’ll get better at this:)

Yay for HumpDay!

November 20, 2008

I’m so happy we’re on the downward slope to the weekend and a short week next week!  It’s been quite a long week and it’ll be nice to have a break.  I’m really worn out!

Anyway, I woke up a the usual 5am time.  My hubby didn’t want to get out of bed which bugged me because I wanted to get to the 6am spin class.  He was being a sleepyhead!  We made it to the gym and I got to the class at 6:03 am, which wasn’t too bad.  I put in a good 52 minutes of spinning and was very sweaty.  People are so funny.  And by funny I mean weird.  There was a woman in class who was wearing her own earphones during the entire class AND doing her own thing.  It was so bizarre!  Can anyone explain that one?

I got to work in pretty good time and made a pretty good bowl of oatmeal.  It had:

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup soymilk
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 T. flax
  • 1 tsp. brown sugar
  • 1 T. peanut butter
  • 1/2 peanut butter larabar, crumbled

After work I picked the hubby up and we hit up the Gap.  We went shopping over the weekend and ended up with a sweater with the security device still on it.  He wanted to wear it tomorrow, so we headed there to return it.  When we got home it was dark, but took the dog on a short, brisk walk.  She did not get to see the sunshine today and I felt HORRIBLE for her.

I noticed that I have gotten really bad heartburn for the last two days.  I’m not sure if it’s in correlation with eating meat…I had chicken last night and tuna for lunch today.  I don’t really know the causes and I’ve never experienced it before, but it’s totally uncomfortable!  I hope it goes away soon.

Today’s Totals:
2 c. black coffee [5]
Peanut Buttery Oats {500}
1 serving of tuna salad (1/2 can tuna, 1 T. light mayo, celery, salt, pepper) [125]
1 serving of kashi crackers [130]
1 grapefruit [80]
1 carrot [20]
1 small pumpkin walnut scone [150]
1/2 banana [50]
whole wheat pasta w/ veggies, small slice bread w/spread, 1/2 c. mandarin oranges [600]
pumpkin dessert [1/4 c. canned pumpkin, splash lt. soymilk, sprinkle oats, chocolate chips) [200]
1 small bag stacy’s pita chips [130]*
handful chocolate chips [200]*

*I’m bummed b/c I didn’t need these two snacks.  I was kind of munchy and mouth hungry and didn’t use my head.  Darn it!

aprox. total 2200 calories
am weight 115

Ok, off to pack stuff for tomorrow!  More later…

The Longest Tuesday

November 19, 2008

Today started off with a bang.  Well, more like an annoying beep, beep, beep (at 5am), but those are just minute details.  My hubby and I ventured to the gym together where I got in a very good workout.  I did a run that an old running coach recommended.  If you are interested, check it out here

Work was steadily busy, but the day just dragged on and on.  I only got away from my desk twice to go for short walks (about 6 min each).  My goal is 3-10 min walks throughout the day.  Hopefully tomorrow.  My hubby convinced me to skip yoga and take the dog on a nice walk.  I grudgingly obliged not realizing that by the time I picked him up and made it home that it would be dark!  So we did a 30 min walk in the dark and I was a little frustrated that I didn’t listen to myself and just go to yoga.  (I kinda think he just didn’t want to carpool with his co-worker, but that’s beside the point!)

Now it’s relaxing time!  We made two healthful meals, so now we can just heat leftovers.  I’m actually really excited to have good food cooked and ready to go.  The options are:  chicken enchiladas and spinach or whole wheat vegetable pasta.  Yummy!

Here’s what I ate today:
2 c. black coffee [5]
pumpkin pie oatmeal [450]
1 c. lentil soup, 1 serving kashi crackers, 1 apple, 1 carrot [450]
1/2 banana, 1 kashi peanut granola bar, 1 dove dark chocolate [250]
1 serving chicken enchiladas [550]
1 dove dark chocolate [50]

aprox. [1750]

So, I want to post my stats/progress somewhere on the blog, but I haven’t figured it out yet.  For now, I’m going to put it here, so I can go back to it later.
11/18/08-weight:  117

Until tomorrow…

Oh How I’ve Missed You So!

November 18, 2008

Goodness me, it’s been so long since I’ve blogged.  I am sorry for being such a slacker, I’m not sure what got into me!  Well, I’m back, and I’m going to be better about this.

So, I’ve set a goal for myself.  I would like to lose 10 lbs. by my 27th birthday.  I want to do this in a healthy way, and I’m going to blog about my journey right here.  My plan is to continue with my daily workouts as normal, but watch my calories.  I think 1800 calories per day is a realistic goal for me.  I haven’t been counting my calories, but probably fall around 2000-2500 most days.  I want to accomplish this weight loss in a healthy, normal way.

Ok, so here I go.  Tomorrow I’ll post my stats, where I am right now and I will log my calories on the blog.  I’ll try to post as many pictures as I can, but I will at least hold myself accountable for my intake.

The Countdown Begins…

November 5, 2008

Oh my what a day!  The hubby and I woke up at 5am excited to get the day started and even more excited to get the evening underway.  I had a pretty good workout, my ankles and hips were aching a little, so I just did a nice 3 mile recovery run and ended with some upper body weights.  The day went pretty quickly, actually, and I headed out at 4:30pm to hit up the 5pm power yoga class.

I had a pretty satisfying eating day…a bowl of oats with banana and peanut butter and it was very good.  I packed my peanut butter in a small jar though and it was incredibly hard to get out!  By the time I got it out, my oatmeal was cold!  But I don’t like warm bananas, so I didn’t pop it back in the microwave.  I’m feeling a little detached from my hunger and fullness; waiting too long between meals and eating a little too much during meals.  I’m going to try to tune back into my intuitive eating skills to really slow down, enjoy my food, and make healthy, satisfying choices.

Ok, I’m on to the continued coverage…Tom Brokaw in high definition.  So exciting…

One more thing…

November 4, 2008

So, I’ve decided that I will not be posting every breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  I might post some creations every now and again…or some fabulous meals here and there…but I’m finding that I’m becoming a little preoccupied with food and feeling a little pressure to eat “perfectly”.  I know I haven’t updated my about me page, but to me this preasure is a big deal.  So, I’m just going to blog what feels right to me.  Hope that’s okay.

Monday Madness

November 4, 2008

AHHH!  It’s been a crazy day.  I took the dog for a walk around 3:45 because I was totally stressed out and overwhelmed.  Also, if I waited much longer it would have been dark.  So we went for a nice walk, hurried home because it was time to pick up the hubby from work.  We stopped by WF for some bread to go with the soup I was planning on making.  We made it home, only to find out that the soup was going to take nearly two hours to make!  Yikes.  So we scrached that idea and had some veggie pasta instead.  It ended up delicious!
111-038

  • olive oil
  • 4 c. whole wheat pasta
  • 1/2 each, red onion, red pepper, orange pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 large zucchini
  • red pepper flakes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper

Oh, and I had an apple with some PB as a snack before cooking.

My boss called while I was cooking and said that part of my web page had been deleted, and it was imperative that I post it again.  So I logged on and fixed that.  Off to get ready for work tomorrow, pack a gym bag, and watch the SNL Election Special!  I can’t wait for tomorrow night…how exciting.

Until tomorrow…
